Today, I have a fascinating topic: counting calories.

I know a lot of people swear by counting calories to help them lose weight…

While other people HATE it.

And there are even some—doctors and scientists included—who think it’s useless!

So, what’s the truth?

Do you actually need to pull out a calculator to add each up food… each meal… and each day?

You know, writing down or putting into an app that you ate an apple (95 calories)... an egg (78 calories)... and a salad you made yourself (which you have to calculate by adding up your spinach, tomato, cucumber, maybe olives, a little sprinkle of cheese, and a handful of sunflower seeds… not even to mention the dressing!).

Or are you better off focusing on something else in order to reach your weight loss goals?

That’s what I’m here to talk about today.

So, let's get started. Today's question is, ""Do I need to count calories to lose weight?""

Now, this is a question I get asked a lot. And unfortunately, there's a lot of conflicting answers out there.

The truth is no, you don't need to count calories to lose weight. But if you're not seeing results, then you may want to.

Here's why: our bodies lose weight by burning more calories than we take it. There are two ways to make sure you burn more calories than you take in: 1) eat less or 2) exercise more.

In order to burn calories and lose weight by exercising, you'll want to incorporate 3-5 days of cardio or HIIT and weightlifting into your routine. If you're already doing this and not seeing results, you may want to start counting calories.

Counting calories can be tricky at first but becomes easier with time… especially if you eat the same types of food over and over again.

Even healthy foods can have a high calorie count... so it's important to start paying attention to how many calories you're taking in per day. You can use a free app like MyFitnessPal… which I personally use every day… to track your food, figure out how many calories you need to eat to meet your goal, and plan meals in advance.

So, while you don't need to count calories, it can help you lose weight and see where you currently stand on your calorie intake, especially if you're just starting out on your weight loss journey.
